- The State Duma announced the indexation of social benefits by 6.8% from February 2026
Starting from February 1, 2026, basic social benefits will be indexed in Russia, as they are every year. The increase will amount to 6.8%, which corresponds to the actual price increase over the previous year. This was reported to Izvestia on January 26 by State Duma deputy, Deputy Chairman of the Budget and Taxes Committee Kaplan Panes (LDPR faction).
According to him, this process takes place in an undeclared manner, and people do not need to go anywhere to recalculate, since all the parameters are already included in the current budget. The increase will affect dozens of types of payments — more than 40 — and will affect families with children, the unemployed, beneficiaries and other categories of citizens.
"I would like to emphasize that the indexation does not apply to old-age insurance pensions, as they were increased by a higher percentage from January 1 — 7.6%. In addition, starting from April 1, it is planned to increase social pensions, which are received by citizens without seniority, the disabled and orphaned children. If we talk about specific amounts, the maternity capital for the first child will grow to 737,205 rubles, and for the second — to 974,189 rubles," Panesh said.
The one-time birth benefit will increase from 26,941 to 28,773 rubles, and the maximum unemployment benefit for the first three months will be 15,916 rubles. A separate block is monthly cash payments for beneficiaries, including people with disabilities of all groups, combat veterans and citizens affected by radiation. Their payments will also increase by 6.8%.
"It is also important that a number of regions have been introducing their own additional support measures since February 1. For the average person, this change means preserving the purchasing power of social benefits, which are protected from depreciation. However, the real effect on the family budget strongly depends on the size of the initial payment," the deputy noted.
He noted that the increase in absolute terms for small benefits, alas, is small and may not cover all household expenses that have grown over the year. Therefore, such indexing is a necessary but basic measure. It is important for the government not to stop there and develop more targeted programs, especially for low-income families who are most affected by rising prices.
"We must remember that behind the dry percentage figures are the real needs of millions of people for high—quality nutrition, treatment and education of children," concluded Panes.
On January 14, Tatyana Butskaya, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family Protection, Fatherhood, Motherhood and Childhood, announced that the maximum amount of benefits provided to Russian women for pregnancy and childbirth in 2027 could exceed 1.1 million rubles. This number was calculated taking into account inflation.
