The investigation asked to arrest Alexey Emikh, the acting head of the Novokuznetsk maternity hospital, for two months. This was announced on January 15 by a representative of the investigation during a court hearing.

Obstetric hospital No. 1 of the city clinical hospital No. 1 in Novokuznetsk temporarily stopped receiving patients on January 13 due to an excess incidence of respiratory infection. Subsequently, it became known about the death of nine babies in the hospital during the New Year holidays. The Russian Investigative Committee confirmed the death of newborns, and a criminal case was opened.
