Starmer announced X's agreement to comply with British laws on intimate deepfakes
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on January 14 that the social network X is working with the Grok chatbot to ensure its compliance with British law.
"I was informed this morning that X is taking measures to ensure full compliance with UK law. If so, then it is welcome, but we are not going to back down," he said, speaking at a meeting of the British parliament.
Starmer stressed that the UK government will continue to take the necessary measures, strengthen existing laws and prepare for the adoption of new ones, and Ofcom, the United Kingdom's broadcasting, Internet, telecommunications and postal regulatory and competition authority, will continue its independent investigation as necessary.
On January 10, American billionaire and entrepreneur Elon Musk made a repost of a photo of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in a bikini generated by artificial intelligence (AI), saying that the British authorities want to ban freedom of speech. This is how the billionaire reacted to reports that the UK authorities are considering banning the social network X due to the Grok chatbot scandal. Users have started using the neural network to create sexualized deepfakes of real people, including celebrities and children.
On January 12, Starmer warned that the country would establish control over Grok, integrated X, if the American company did not take measures to regulate it. The Prime Minister added that the Government will not tolerate violations of security and human rights.
