Passenger car imports to Russia decreased by a third in a year
By the end of 2025, 890 thousand passenger cars were imported to Russia, which is almost a third (-32.5%) less than in 2024, when imports amounted to 1.32 million units. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this in his Telegram channel on January 13.
According to him, the volume of imports of new passenger cars (under the age of 3 years) it decreased by 57% and amounted to 396 thousand units. Of these, official distributors imported 224 thousand cars, which is more than three times less (-70%) than in 2024, when the figure was 743 thousand units.
The most common brands in the import of new passenger cars were Changan (with a share of 26%), Geely (16%) and Tank (7%).
The volume of alternative car imports decreased by 5% to 172,000 units last year. The most popular brands were Toyota (17.5%), BMW (10.5%) and Geely (10%).
As for used cars (older than 3 years), the volume of imports in this segment increased by a quarter (+25%) to 494 thousand units. The top three brands were Toyota (19.7%), Honda (15.8%) and BMW (9.3%).
Earlier in the day, it was reported that by the end of 2025, the total volume of the Russian car market decreased by 19% compared to 2024 and amounted to 1.49 million units. In the segment of medium–range trucks (MCVs; 3.5-16 tons), the market fell by 44% to 12.3 thousand units.
