Sobyanin spoke about the results of the renewal of Moscow's rolling stock
Last year, Moscow transport received over a thousand new units of rolling stock. More than 300 cars have been delivered to the metro alone, including those from the newest Moscow-2026 series, said the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin.
In his channel at the MAX, the mayor recalled that Russia's first unmanned tram appeared in Moscow — it operates on route No. 10. More than 400 new generation electric buses have also started operating in the capital. The renovation of the trains has also been completed at the MDC — in particular, 15 Ivolga 4.0 trains run in the Yaroslavl direction, the mayor said.
Sobyanin shared more information about the results and plans for further implementation of the Moscow Transport Development Strategy in his personal blog. In particular, as the mayor noted, "over the past 15 years, the Moscow Metro has undergone a large-scale transformation: the network has grown 1.7 times, the pace of train upgrades has radically accelerated," and in the next two years, more than 700 Moscow-2026 series wagons will arrive in the capital.
According to the mayor, since 2017, Moscow has purchased more than 550 fully low-floor trams. Last year, 50 modern single-section trams "Lion Cub-Moscow" were added to the fleet. These are the first trams in Russia with an autonomous running system — they are able to cover sections of more than 5 km without connecting to a contact network.
"Now the lion cubs run along the first Moscow tram diameter T1 — from the Metrogorodok to the Universitet metro station, as well as on route 5 from the Rizhskaya metro station to the Belorussky railway station," Sobyanin wrote. "Another 50 lion cubs will arrive by the end of 2026."
Buses in the capital have been replaced by modern electric buses since 2018, and more than such machines are already operating on the streets of Moscow. "In the next two years, 700 more new generation A5 electric buses will be added to them under the 2025 contract," the mayor informed. "Replacing one bus with an electric bus reduces carbon dioxide emissions by more than 60 tons per year."
