- Nepal reports on the fate of the killer elephant that attacked people at Chitwan National Park
The elephant named Dhurbe, which killed 10 to 20 people in Chitwan National Park in the early 2010s, is under the control of the authorities and currently poses no threat. This was announced on Thursday, January 8, by Mani Lamichane, Senior Director at the Tourism Council of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, Chief for Gandaki Province.
"He (the elephant. — Ed.) in a controlled area, he is being watched. He used to be uncontrollable, but the authorities caught him and are controlling him," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Lamichane, who participated in the business tourism congress Meet Global MICE Congress, added that the attacks of this animal have stopped and in the jungle, where he previously lived, those who wish can safely enjoy their holidays.
One of Dhurbe's last attacks was recorded in the spring of 2021, when he attacked specialists who were counting the rhino population in the Chitwan National Park.
On December 24, 2025, The Star newspaper reported on a wild bear attack on a school located in the Indian state of Uttarkhand. The animal broke down the door of the office, and then broke into the lesson and attempted to drag him away from the sixth grade students. It was noted that the child was released by the bear after he was scared off by teachers — the minor received multiple injuries from the claws of the beast.
