The German authorities have strongly condemned the words of Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy head of the Russian Security Council, about the possible abduction of Chancellor Friedrich Merz. This was announced on January 5 by Sebastian Hille, Deputy press Secretary of the German government.

Earlier, in an interview with TASS, Medvedev, talking about the fate of the chancellor after the US operation in Venezuela, admitted that "Merz's abduction could be an excellent plot twist."

"We condemn such threats in the strongest terms," Hille said. His words are quoted by the Tagesspiegel newspaper.

The German authorities said they saw no reason to increase security measures, as Chancellor Merz is "reliably protected" and his guards are "among the best in the world."

In the same interview on January 4, Medvedev stated that the United Nations (UN) is not capable of influencing events such as the US strikes on Venezuela. According to him, the organization's resolutions have never forced the parties to lay down their arms or stop the genocide. Medvedev stated that the founding documents of the United Nations remained largely "well-intentioned." He added that the world needs effective mechanisms of international law to ensure the safety of billions of people.
