Rostec announced the work of the Russian tank industry on the machines of the future
Modern tanks produced in Russia represent transitional models before the advent of future combat vehicles that will be fully integrated into a single system with other types of weapons, Rostec reported on January 6.
In the future, tanks will continue to be the main striking force and will retain their classic appearance - tracked chassis, advanced armor protection and a medium or large caliber cannon in a rotating turret, the state corporation noted.
However, they will be fully integrated using automatic control systems with other forces and assets, including drones and ground robots, artillery, electronic warfare (EW) and air defense (air defense) systems. Such a system will make it possible to neutralize a significant part of the anti-tank threats even before the start of the active phase of the operation and "ensure that tanks occupy the target attack lines with a high probability."
"Currently, Rostec State Corporation produces several types of modern tanks, the protection and on-board systems of which have been quickly improved taking into account combat experience. These vehicles can be considered as a transitional stage to advanced armored vehicles," the state corporation's Telegram channel says.
Such vehicles include the T-90M "Breakthrough" main battle tank, as well as the deeply modernized T-80BVM and T-72B3M.
On January 1, Uralvagonzavod Concern (UVZ) sent the final batch of T-90M Breakthrough tanks to the Russian Army as part of the fulfillment of the state defense order for 2025. The designers noted that the T-90M "Breakthrough" tanks continue to be constantly improved. Along with the tanks, tactical first-aid kits were sent to the troops, as well as drawings and wishes to the military personnel from the children of the concern's employees.
