Russian striker Alexander Ovechkin helped Washington beat Anaheim in the home match of the NHL regular season with a score of 7:4. This was reported on January 6 by Sport-Express.

Justin Surdif (hat trick), Ryan Leonard, John Carlson and Ovechkin scored goals for the hosts, who broke a four-game losing streak. Ovechkin beat Wayne Gretzky in the number of games played, including the playoffs, and now he has 1,695 games. The Russian also set a new NHL record for home games with a goal scored — 349.

Chris Kreider, Alex Killorn, Jacob Truba and Beckett Senecke scored for the visitors. Anaheim suffered its fifth defeat in a row and occupies the sixth place in the Western Conference table, Washington is in sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

Earlier, on January 6, it was reported that Ovechkin scored the 913th goal in his career, setting a record for the entire history of the club. In just 1,534 matches, the Russian forward scored 1,913 goals and 745 assists.
