NATO will cease to exist if the United States decides to attack Greenland militarily. This was announced on January 5 by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

"If the United States decides to militarily attack another NATO country, then everything will stop — including our membership in NATO and the security that was ensured after the end of World War II," Frederiksen stressed.

The Prime Minister also noted that Copenhagen conveyed Denmark's position on the inadmissibility of annexing any part of the Danish Commonwealth — Denmark itself, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. She stressed that Denmark remains a reliable ally of the United States, but is concerned about individual statements by the American side.

Earlier, on January 4, it was reported that Frederiksen strongly recommended to US President Donald Trump to refrain from making statements about the annexation of Greenland to the United States, stressing that the United States has no right to annex any part of the Danish Kingdom.

At the same time, Alexey Pushkov, chairman of the Federation Council's information policy commission, noted that Trump could look for other ways to control the strategically important territory without resorting to direct annexation.
