The Swiss government has frozen all assets of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and those close to the Latin American leader. This was reported by Bloomberg on January 5.

"The purpose of the order is to prevent the export of potentially illegally acquired assets from Switzerland," the government said in a statement released on Monday. The asset freeze takes effect immediately and will remain in effect for four years until further notice," the material says.

The Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not disclose how many assets related to Maduro are held in Switzerland.

The Swiss government said the freeze was taking place against the backdrop of Maduro's loss of power, which creates the possibility that "Venezuela will initiate legal aid procedures for illegally acquired assets in the future."

Earlier in the day, Maduro was taken to New York federal Court to face charges. Prior to that, it was reported that the Venezuelan president was being taken away from the colony in Brooklyn. The politician was taken to a helicopter pad in Manhattan, from where he was moved to the first hearing in the drug trafficking case.

On January 3, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike against Venezuela. He noted that the President of the republic, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife, Celia Flores, were captured and taken away from the territory of the state.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the US leadership to release Maduro. In addition, the Ministry also stressed the need to create conditions for resolving existing problems between the parties through diplomatic means.

Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez said on January 4 that most of Maduro's security personnel died as a result of US actions. According to him, the Venezuelan parliament will start working normally on January 5.

Retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis said on January 3 that the reasons for the US military attack on Venezuela were completely fabricated. He noted that Washington would hardly have remained silent if such actions had been taken against their country, and added that even the way the operation was executed and executed spoke for itself.
