The EC did not condemn the deaths of civilians in the US attack on Venezuela
Representatives of the European Commission (EC) evaded the question of whether they condemn the deaths of civilians during the US aggression against Venezuela. This was announced on January 5 by the head of the EC press service, Paula Pinho.
"This issue also depends on what we should call these events. I have nothing to add to what I said earlier," Pinho said at a briefing in Brussels. The broadcast was carried out on the authority's website.
She clarified that the European commissioners at the meeting did not discuss how to classify the actions of the United States, and could not clarify whether the United States violated international law.
On January 3, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico pointed out that the military operation launched by US President Donald Trump against Venezuela is another proof of the destruction of the world order that was established after World War II. He stressed that he would be interested to know how representatives of the European Union (EU) would react to this "reprehensible attack."
The United States launched a large-scale strike on Venezuela, which killed at least 80 people, on January 3. At the same time, Trump announced the capture of the President of the republic, Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores, who were later taken to New York.
The American leader warned that his government intends to rule Venezuela until the United States can implement a "safe, proper and reasonable transition of power."
