On January 5, Colombian President Gustavo Petro declared his readiness to take up arms again in defense of the country after threats from the United States.

"I have sworn not to touch weapons since the signing of the 1989 peace treaty, but for the sake of the motherland, I will take up arms again, which I do not want," Petro said.

The Colombian leader warned that if the United States detains the president, who enjoys the support of the people, it will provoke a conflict. He also ordered the dismissal of any security commander "who prefers the U.S. flag to the Colombian flag."

Petro stated that he trusts the people and called on them to take power in municipalities to protect them from illegal violence, ordering law enforcement agencies to shoot at invaders instead of citizens. In addition, the president ordered the dismissal of several police intelligence colonels for providing false information against the state.

On January 4, US President Donald Trump accused Colombian President Gustavo Petro of producing drugs and did not rule it out. The American leader also did not rule out that he would carry out the same operation against him that he carried out against Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.

On January 3, Trump announced that the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike against Venezuela. He noted that the President of the republic, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife, Celia Flores, were captured and taken away from the territory of the state.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the US leadership to release Maduro. In addition, the Ministry also stressed the need to create conditions for resolving existing problems between the parties through diplomatic means.

Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez said on January 4 that most of Maduro's security personnel died as a result of US actions. According to him, the Venezuelan parliament will start working normally on January 5.
