A Paris court has found 10 people guilty in the case of spreading fakes about France's first lady Brigitte Macron on the Internet. This was reported on January 5 by France Info radio station.

For example, Aurelien Poirson-Atlan was sentenced to eight months in prison with a suspended sentence for a series of posts on the social network X (ex. Twitter). Delphine J., who created a viral four-hour video about Macron posted on YouTube, received a six-month suspended prison sentence and a six-month suspension of her online accounts.

The Financial Times newspaper reported in July 2025 that French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife filed a defamation lawsuit against journalist Candice Owens, who claimed that the first lady of France was a man. According to the newspaper, the 218-page lawsuit alleges that the journalist published "ridiculous, defamatory and far-fetched fictions."

In September, the Macron couple's chief lawyer, Tom Clare, told a BBC podcast that his clients were ready to refute the allegations regarding the first lady's gender in court.
