The leader of the Democrats in the US Senate called Trump's operation in Venezuela an "act of war"

The operation launched by US President Donald Trump against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela was not approved by congressional representatives and could be regarded as an "act of war." This was announced on January 4 by the leader of the Democratic minority in the US House of Representatives, Hakim Jeffries.

"It wasn't just a drug operation. It was an act of war. Of course, the Delta squad (a special forces unit in the USA) participated in it. — Ed.)," he said on the NBC News channel.

Jeffries stressed that in addition to Delta representatives, thousands of military personnel and at least 150 aircraft of the American Air Force (IAF) were involved in this operation. He also did not rule out the possibility that warships could be present off the coast of Venezuela and South America.

Referring to the US constitution, the Democratic leader noted that only Congress has the right to declare war and authorize such actions that Trump has taken.

Military bases and infrastructure facilities were attacked

Trump announced on Friday, January 3, that his state had successfully launched a large-scale strike on Venezuela, which, according to The New York Times (NYT), killed 80 people. The head of the White House noted that the President of the Republic and his wife Celia Flores were captured and taken out of the territory of the state. This operation was condemned by Iran, Turkey, Cuba, Belarus, as well as the co-presidents of Nicaragua.

On January 3, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called Trump's military operation another proof of the destruction of the world order that was established after World War II. On the same day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China (PRC) called the US actions hegemonic and threatening security in Latin America.

The Russian Foreign Ministry, in turn, also expressed deep concern and condemnation after the military operation in Venezuela, expressing its solidarity with the Venezuelan people and the leadership of the state.
