An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 occurred in the Lazarevsky district of Sochi on the coast, the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) reported on December 4.

According to the press service, the earthquake affected the coastal zone with a length of 40 km. Its source was located at a depth of 10 km. In addition to Sochi, tremors were felt in Anapa and Tuapse.

Sochi Mayor Andrey Proshunin clarified that the epicenter of the earthquake, according to the Russian Academy of Sciences, was located in the Black Sea about 5 km from the coast of Sochi. The strength of the tremors in the Lazarevsky district was 4 points, in the Central district — 3 points. Currently, the tremors have subsided.

Residents of the Lazarevsky district felt seismic activity around 13:00. The unified dispatch service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations received calls from residents of the Magri microdistrict, Lazarevsky and the resort village of Loo, he added.

"There are no injured people or infrastructure damage," the mayor wrote on his Telegram channel.

Also on the evening of December 31, 2025, an earthquake of magnitude 5.1 was recorded in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula. It was detected 214 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, which is home to over 162 thousand people. There was no information about casualties or damage as a result of the incident.
