The Interior Ministry warned about new fraudulent bots with books in Telegram
In Russia, scammers have started using bots with books in the Telegram messenger to download malicious files. This was announced on January 4 by the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
According to the agency, one of the common scenarios looks like this: the bot offers "free books without restrictions", accepts a request for a specific publication and gives a description of it, but then begins to persistently demand to download an APK file for Android devices.
As an excuse, the attackers claim that "reading through Telegram is unstable"
"Instead of risky APK files from unverified sources, use legal subscription services," the agency added in its Telegram channel.
Earlier that day, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported that fraudsters began sending viruses allegedly from cellular companies under the pretext of prolonging the contract. It was noted that the scammers pose as employees of communication companies and, under the pretext of extending the contract, offer to download files with names like "Contract.apk". During the conversation, they also convince the victim to make changes to the banking application, referring to the phone number change.
