Trump declared the permanent dominance of the United States in the Western Hemisphere
The United States will ensure that its dominance in the Western Hemisphere is never questioned again. This was announced on January 3 by the head of the White House, Donald Trump.
"In accordance with our new national security strategy, American dominance in the Western Hemisphere will never again be questioned. This is not going to happen," he said during a press conference.
The US president also added that the unilateral embargo on Venezuela's oil will remain in place, and the United States Navy will remain off the coast of that country.
Earlier, Trump said that the purpose of the military operation in Caracas was to capture Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. He also charged the Venezuelan leader and his wife with alleged "drug terrorism" against U.S. citizens, adding that they would face "American justice."
The American leader said that the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike on Venezuela. According to him, Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores, were captured and taken out of the country. Trump later clarified that the US military took Maduro and his wife out by helicopter, after which they landed on a ship.
The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern and condemnation after the US military operation in Venezuela. Russia also reaffirmed its solidarity with the Venezuelan people and the leadership of the state and called for preventing further escalation of tension between the two countries.
