Ivan Varshavsky, Hero of Socialist Labor, head of the brigade that connected the rails of the BAM (Baikal-Amur Mainline) at the Balbukhta junction in the Chita region in September 1984 and provided through train traffic there, died at the age of 87. This was announced on Saturday, January 3, by the Governor of the Amur region Vasily Orlov.

"Sad news from Tynda — Ivan Nikolaevich Varshavsky, the legend of BAM, the hero of Social Work, an honorary resident of the region, has died. This is a great loss for all of us," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

The governor clarified that he was well acquainted with Varshavsky, whose strength of spirit, wisdom and love for the Amur region amazed him. Orlov offered condolences to the family and friends of the brigadier, who will be immortalized in the memory of the region.

Ivan Varshavsky was born on April 10, 1938 in the village of Zagnitkov, which is located on the territory of the Odessa region. He was the youngest of eight children raised in his family. In 1953, after graduating from the seventh grade, he was involved in laying a highway in the Kodymsky district, four years later, in 1957, he served in the Baltic, being assigned to the border fleet.

Since 1964, Varshavsky successfully completed his studies at the brigadier courses at the road technical school, and then entered the school of working youth, after which, in 1969. After some time, he received a diploma of secondary technical education, which he was given at the Irkutsk Construction College. Since 1974, the foreman arrives in the village of Tyndinsky, where he begins to work on the construction and development of the BAM.

Varshavsky, being recognized as an honored builder of the Russian Federation, was a laureate of the Lenin Komsomol Prize, as well as the holder of the Orders of Lenin, the Badge of Honor and several medals, including "For the Construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline", "Veteran of Labor", "100th Anniversary of the Transsib", St. Sergei of Radonezh.

In addition, he was awarded for his participation in the construction of the Holy Trinity Church, which is also located in Tynda.
