Experts talked about the safe use of garlands at home
Christmas garlands are the main element of the festive decor, which creates a New Year's mood and a special holiday atmosphere. Garlands are now used not only to decorate the Christmas tree, but also to decorate windows, walls and the New Year's table. However, if used improperly, such lighting technology can pose a real danger. On January 3, Arlight experts told us how to properly handle garlands at home and what to look for before installing them.
It is important to select products depending on the place of use. So, for balconies and verandas it is better to take garlands with a high degree of moisture protection. Ordinary, "home-made" ones can lead to a short circuit in damp conditions.
Experts do not recommend using non-certified products to decorate the Christmas tree, as such electrical appliances often fail and overheat. Before installation, it is necessary to check the integrity of the wires, the presence of exposed contacts and the conformity of the marking with established safety standards.
For stable operation of the power grid, it is necessary to control the power of the garlands, preventing exceeding the permissible load. Simultaneous connection of a large number of lighting devices will lead to overheating of the wiring and damage to the contacts, which can have dangerous consequences. To prevent such situations, try to distribute the load between different power sources — plug it into different outlets.
"Decorating an apartment with garlands deserves special attention. It is important to remember that garlands should not work unattended, especially at night — at this time it must be unplugged. It is also important to purchase such products from trusted manufacturers. At home, it is important to use high-quality diode lights. Please note that the glow of such garlands is noticeable even in daylight. The glow of budget and low—quality garlands is noticeable only at night," warned Yulia Kuzmicheva, Arlight's Decor manager.
Energy—efficient garlands should also be preferred - they are safe to use due to lower heat generation. This, in turn, eliminates the risk of fire when placed next to furniture. In case of cracking, burning smell or uneven flickering, the product should be switched off immediately. These signs are often the cause of a short circuit.
Earlier, on December 26, Anton Kazantsev, ophthalmologist and CEO of VISTA Ophthalmology Center, said that the intense flickering of LEDs, especially in low-quality garlands, can have a negative impact on the visual system. To minimize the negative effects of garlands on vision, the ophthalmologist advised choosing jewelry labeled "flicker-free" or PWM-controlled above 1000 Hz, as they provide stable light.
