Dengue, chikungunya, zika, yellow fever, and malaria are widespread in Southeast Asia and South Asia and are transmitted by blood-sucking insects. This was reported on January 3 in the press service of Rospotrebnadzor.

"During the holidays, it is important to remember about preventive measures when planning trips abroad, especially when visiting countries with tropical climates," RIA Novosti quoted the press service as saying.

Rospotrebnadzor clarified that in countries with an equatorial tropical climate, including Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and the Philippines, yellow fever, dengue fever, malaria, chikungunya and zika are widespread. These diseases are transmitted through the bites of mosquitoes, midges, ticks and other blood-sucking insects.

Russians were also advised to check the epidemiological situation in the territorial bodies of Rospotrebnadzor and tour operators in advance before traveling abroad. During your stay in tropical and subtropical countries, you should use repellents, mosquito nets, wear closed light clothing and avoid wetlands.

Rospotrebnadzor also reminded about the need to consult a doctor in advance, start taking antimalarial drugs and get vaccinated against yellow fever with an international certificate.

In addition, a number of countries, including India, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka and Thailand, remain at risk of contracting intestinal infections, including dysentery and hepatitis A. For drinking, hygiene and washing products, it is recommended to use only bottled water in its original packaging and to avoid using ice from raw water.

The ministry also advised to familiarize yourself in advance with the list of necessary preventive vaccinations before traveling and, if necessary, get vaccinated, including vaccinations against measles and other infections provided for in the National Calendar.
