The European Union (EU) currently does not have the technology to completely abandon American cloud platforms and store data exclusively within the EU. This was announced on January 2 by the head of the Belgian Cybersecurity Center, Miguel de Bruijker, as quoted by the Financial Times.

He noted that the key positions in the digital infrastructure market are still occupied by companies from the United States, and called the idea of fully deploying data in European clouds unrealistic.

"Europe has lost its leadership both in cloud technologies and in the development of the Internet as a whole," de Bruycker emphasized.

According to him, the European Union's cybersecurity system relies heavily on cooperation with the private sector, a significant part of which is located outside Europe. However, he noted that such dependence in itself does not pose a critical threat.

On the same day, Bloomberg reported that European countries were lagging behind in space exploration. According to the publication, Europe currently accounts for only about 10% of public investment in the space industry and 22% of private investment, while more than half is in the United States.
