Ovechkin got into a scuffle after a foul by Russian Zubov in an NHL match
On January 1, Russian Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin became a participant in a brawl in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season match against the Ottawa Senators.
The incident occurred in the first period of the meeting after a tough game by Ottawa defender Artem Zubov against Washington striker Alexei Protas, who crashed into the side after contact. Ovechkin and his teammate Dylan Strome reacted to the incident, having come into conflict with the opposing players.
Michael Amadio and Jake Sanderson pulled the Russian forward away from the Tooth, while a separate clash took place between Ovechkin and Amadio. As a result of the episode, the Tooth received a double minor fine, Strom was punished with a two-minute removal. Protas was able to continue the match after receiving medical treatment.

As a result, Washington scored 47 points in 41 games after the defeat. Now the hockey club occupies the fourth place in the Metropolitan Division.
