- The Ministry of Internal Affairs called the fraudsters' phrases luring the code from the "State Services".
Intruders, seeking to obtain authorization codes and create the appearance of unauthorized access to accounts on the Gosuslugi portal, resort to the tactic of impersonating representatives of marketplaces, courier services, as well as various organizations. This was announced on January 2 in the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
"Complex, multicomponent attacks now in most cases begin with luring out the authorization code and simulating hacking of a citizen's account on the Gosuslug portal," the department told TASS.
It is clarified that in the arsenal of scammers there are specific speech patterns, the knowledge of which is a key factor for identifying deception and preventing becoming a victim of fraud. The Interior Ministry warned about common fraud schemes where attackers use certain phrases posing as representatives of popular services. They can call on behalf of marketplaces and delivery services, informing them about the need to verify their identity in order to receive a parcel.
Also, according to the agency, there are often calls on behalf of public utilities with a proposal to "link" the keys to the intercom to the phone number, while requiring a code. Medical organizations can be imitated by phrases about the need to confirm an appointment. Fraudsters can also pose as employees of the Russian Post, offering to log in to the chatbot to receive the track number of a registered letter.
Educational institutions can be used to intimidate students with phrases about missing an assessment and the need to take an online test. It is also common for fraudsters to pose as representatives of the banking security service, law enforcement agencies, or the prosecutor's office.
"If you hear any of these phrases, stop communicating. Remember! None of these organizations requests SMS codes! Never share them with anyone. Also, attackers often speak with a characteristic southern accent," the department concluded.
On December 31, the Ministry of Internal Affairs named ways to calculate fraudsters calling from the "military enlistment office". It was clarified that if during a telephone conversation we are talking about the "unified register" or "electronic summonses", this is a clear signal that the person is dealing with fraudsters, and not with a representative of the military enlistment office. As explained in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, this registry works automatically and does not involve the participation of an operator.
