President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed a law that introduces new requirements and restrictions for the use of electric scooters. This was reported on December 30 by the Tengrinews portal.

Electric scooters are officially recognized in the country as a means of transport, they can only be operated by persons over the age of 18. To travel with such equipment on the roadway, you will need to have a driver's license with you — this requirement does not apply if the electric scooter is operated in parks or on bike paths. All devices, both personal and rental, must have registration numbers.

Companies that rent out electric scooters are required to take out insurance on them. In addition, they are instructed to keep track of where customers park their rental equipment.

Earlier, on December 27, it became known that the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia proposed from January 1, 2027 to extend the point localization system to electric scooters and other individual mobility aids with an electric motor.
