- Rospotrebnadzor reported on the dominance of the Hong Kong H3N2 influenza strain in Russia
In Russia, the circulating influenza viruses are dominated by strain A(H3N2), also known as Hong Kong flu. This was announced on December 30 by the press service of Rospotrebnadzor on the agency's website.
"The Russian Federation continues to have a seasonal incidence of respiratory infections. A(H3N2) continues to dominate among influenza viruses," the report says.
The agency reported that the coverage of flu vaccination in the country has reached 54.8% of the total population. During the New Year holidays, Rospotrebnadzor will continue to monitor the epidemiological situation to prevent its deterioration. The territorial authorities are also instructed to maintain operational readiness.
The head of the service, Anna Popova, also recalled the importance of following preventive measures: wash your hands with soap, avoid mass gatherings if possible, and use protective masks in places at increased risk of infection. If symptoms of acute respiratory viral infections or flu appear, seek medical help.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, the situation with the spread of influenza is under the control of the agency.
Popova reported on December 25 that flu incidence rates exceeded the norm in 26 regions of Russia. This indicator is not large. She also clarified that the type of virus A called Hong Kong flu is well known in medicine. In addition, Popova pointed out that at the moment, almost 55% of the total population has been vaccinated.
The press service of Rospotrebnadzor reported on December 16 that the incidence of influenza in Russia is estimated to be moderate.
