- China urged not to allow provocations after Kiev's attack on the residence of the President of the Russian Federation
Beijing urges to avoid further escalation of the conflict in Ukraine. This was stated on December 30 by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian, commenting on recent attempts by the Ukrainian armed forces to attack the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"We urge <...> to adhere to three principles: to prevent the spread of the conflict, to avoid escalation of hostilities and to refrain from provocations in order to de-escalate the situation and create conditions for a political settlement of the crisis," RIA Novosti quoted the diplomat as saying.
He also noted that dialogue and negotiations are the only viable way to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.
The day before, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) had attempted a drone attack on Putin's residence in the Novgorod region. He noted that Russia's negotiating position would be reviewed in light of Kiev's attempt to attack the residence of the Russian president.
On the same day, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that US President Donald Trump was shocked to learn about the attack on Putin's residence during telephone conversations with him. According to an aide to the Russian president, Putin stressed during the conversation that such actions would not be left without a serious response, and said that Russia's position on a number of previously reached agreements would be reviewed.
