A 12-year-old Russian chess master, Sergey Sklokin, was able to beat the current world champion in classical chess, Dommaraja Gukesh from India. The young player won during the third round of the World Blitz Championship on December 29 at the Doha competition.
Sklokin won on the 80th move, playing with white pieces. The Russian has played three games and is in the leadership group.
The World Blitz Championship ends on December 30, and the tournament is organized according to the Swiss system of 19 rounds, Sport-Express adds.
On December 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated chess player Alexandra Goryachkina on her victory at the Rapid World Championship in the capital of Qatar.
