A bill on standardization of food price tags has been submitted to the State Duma.
On December 29, a bill was submitted to the State Duma on the mandatory uniform format of price tags for food. The corresponding draft is posted in the database of draft laws of the State Duma.
"For food of the same type within the same trading platform, the price is indicated based on the same weight or volume indicators: per 1 kg or per 100 g, or per 1 liter or 100 ml," the document says.
The initiative involves amendments to article 10 of the law "On Consumer Rights Protection". The authors note that now prices for weight products such as cheeses, fruits or sweets are indicated differently — per kg, per 100 g or per package, which makes comparison difficult and may mislead buyers.
The new rules should increase the transparency of pricing. The government's opinion attached to the draft states that similar initiatives have already been rejected by the State Duma in 2023 and 2024, and the position of the Cabinet of Ministers has not changed.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said during the "Results of the Year" on December 19 that discounted medicines in Russian pharmacies should have a fixed price, and this also applies to private pharmacies. The Head of State also called for paying special attention to the development of pharmacy chains through the introduction of "mobile pharmacies."
