State Duma deputy Igor Antropenko proposed allowing labor veterans to retire a year earlier than stipulated by law. He announced this on December 29.

"Reducing the retirement period by one year for persons with the title of "Labor Veteran" will become an effective tool that supports and ensures social justice and quality of life, and will also reduce social tension in society," Antropenko said in an address to Anton Kotyakov, Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation.

According to the deputy, now the status of a labor veteran provides social benefits, but not the right to early retirement.

"The proposed amendment to the legislation will serve as an additional motivator to combat the "shadow" employment of our citizens, and it will also be a serious help for those people who, according to labor legislation, started working at the age of 14 and will already have impressive work experience by the time they retire," he told RIA Novosti.

Earlier, on December 23, it was reported that LDPR deputies introduced a bill to introduce the category of "Veteran of labor activity" for citizens with long work experience. The bill provides for social benefits and support for labor veterans, regardless of awards.
