- China has imposed retaliatory sanctions against the US military industrial complex for selling weapons to Taiwan
China has imposed retaliatory restrictive measures against 20 American military-industrial companies in connection with the sale of weapons to Taiwan. This was announced on Friday, December 26, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China.
"The United States recently announced a large-scale arms sale to Taiwan, which seriously violates the one—China principle and three joint Sino-American communiques, as well as gross interference in China's internal affairs and seriously undermines China's sovereignty and territorial integrity," the ministry said in a statement.
It is noted that the restrictive measures were introduced in accordance with the PRC law on countering foreign sanctions.
On December 18, Reuters reported that the Pentagon had approved the sale of $11.1 billion worth of weapons, equipment and military services to Taiwan's Ministry of Defense. It was clarified that the proposed arms sale covers eight types of weapons, including HIMARS missile systems, howitzers, anti-tank missiles, drones and parts for other equipment.
