The price increase for the New Year's table in 2025 has slowed down
A grocery set for the New Year's table in Russia rose in price by 6% in 2025, which is twice lower than the price increase a year earlier. This was reported on December 26 by the newspaper Kommersant with reference to the Rusprodsoyuz association.
It is noted that in 2024, the New Year's set went up by 12%. The slowdown in price growth is due to the overproduction of certain goods. Thanks to a good harvest, vegetables have fallen in price: potatoes — by 22%, onions — by 15.9%, beets — by 13.2%, carrots — by 7%, cucumbers — by 6.8%. The cost of eggs has also decreased by 15.5%.
At the same time, sprats rose in price by 26%, and chocolates — by 15%. According to a study by the Orange service, most Russians are willing to spend 10-15 thousand rubles on a New Year's table.
According to the calculations of the Evorot company, the average cost of festive products will amount to 7.2 thousand rubles. In Moscow, this amount will reach 9.9 thousand rubles (an increase of 13% compared to last year), in St. Petersburg - 8.6 thousand rubles (an increase of 10%).
Evgenia Melnikova, a gastroenterologist at SM Clinic, said on December 18 that it was traditional to set a large table in the New Year. However, some items from the classic menu can have a negative effect on well-being if consumed excessively. According to her, the most popular salads are at risk — "herring under a fur coat" and olivier.
