A Siberian man was sentenced for building a hut in the taiga
A court in the Krasnoyarsk Territory sentenced a 62-year-old resident of the Sayansky district, who arbitrarily built a hut in the taiga from trees felled there. This is reported by the regional prosecutor's office.
According to the agency, in June 2025, a 62-year-old man climbed up the Caen River 22 km south-east of the village of Orye, where he lives. There he chose a secluded area belonging to the Can-Ocler district forestry, and cut down 11 pines and five larches.
"Here, he also laid down logs and in a month built a 3x3.5 m hut for personal recreation and fishing, grossly violating the ban on logging without lease agreements or purchase and sale of forest plantations," the report says.
A month later, the hut was discovered by law enforcement officers. According to the KrasnoyarskMedia news agency, the volume of sawn wood amounted to 15 cubic meters, and damage caused to the state forestry fund amounted to 480 thousand rubles.
The court found the man guilty of illegal logging (Part 3 of Article 260 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and sentenced him to two years of probation with a probation period of one and a half years, and the court also confiscated a chainsaw. It is noted that the lumberjack compensated for the damage caused during the investigation.
