- The political scientist assessed the impact of the talks between Putin and Macron on the agreement on Ukraine
The potential talks between the presidents of Russia and France, Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron, which the French leader had previously called for, are unlikely to bring an agreement on Ukraine closer. This was stated by political analyst Dmitry Levy on Wednesday, December 24.
According to the expert, in this case, Macron's remark is just an attempt to stay in the context of negotiations.
"It is clear that the dialogue between Russia and the United States is now a priority, while Europe has been left out. But, given the failed domestic policy of France and the shaky positions of its leadership, Macron wants to play on the foreign policy field in order to return to the domestic agenda with at least some positive," the political scientist said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
Levy believes that there is no real intention behind the French leader's call to bring the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict closer. At the same time, he admitted that superficial discussions and contacts are possible.
On December 19, Macron said that representatives of the European Union and Ukraine needed to talk with the Russian leader, NSN reports. He stressed the importance for Europeans not to trust this dialogue exclusively to intermediaries, RT clarifies.
