According to preliminary data, cloudy weather with short-term snowfall is expected in the capital on December 31 and January 1. Daytime temperatures will range from -7 to -10 degrees, while nighttime temperatures will drop to -10...-15 degrees. This was announced on December 24 by the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Roman Vilfand.

"On the last day of the year and the first day of next year, the weather is still forecast to be approximately the same. Cloudy, snow at times," the forecaster added in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He specified that the expected temperature values will be about three degrees below the long-term average for this period.

Vilfand also noted that this forecast is preliminary and can be updated as we approach the dates.

On December 19, Alexander Shuvalov, head of the Meteo forecasting center, predicted "truly wintry" weather for the New Year. According to him, the first waves of cold weather will cover the capital and its region from Tuesday to Thursday— December 23-25. Snow may fall in this area on December 28 and 29. Shuvalov stressed that a reliable forecast is clear only for seven days.
