The price of silver futures on December 23 exceeded $70 per troy ounce, updating the historical maximum. This is evidenced by data from the Comex exchange.

According to the trading statistics of the site, by 21:18 Moscow time, metal futures were rising in price by 3.50% compared to the previous closing level and reached $70,965 per troy ounce. Thus, the price exceeded the $70 mark for the first time.

At the same time, gold futures for delivery in 2026 on the Comex exchange were at $4503.5.

Alexander Schneiderman, head of Alfa-Forex's customer support and sales department, told Izvestia on December 18 that the rise in silver prices was due to macroeconomic factors, not speculative movements. It is associated with a change in expectations regarding the monetary policy of the US Federal Reserve. According to him, against the background of the stabilization of the foreign exchange market and a decrease in the volatility of the ruble, many investors are beginning to shift their interest towards precious metals.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
