The Investigative Committee of Russia has opened a criminal case against Ukrainian militant Alexei Petrakov, suspected of murdering a Russian prisoner of war. This was announced on December 23 by the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

"The military investigative authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation have opened a criminal case against soldier Alexei Petrakov, a serviceman of the military unit A-7036 of the armed formations of Ukraine," the Telegram channel said.

The investigation found that in August 2025, in the village of Zelenoe Pole, the DPR, he captured a Russian serviceman who declared support for a special military operation (SVO).

After that, Petrakov, having made sure that the prisoner was not armed and posed no threat, shot him with a machine gun. In mid-August 2025, the suspect himself surrendered to the Russian military.

He is suspected of committing crimes under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Use of prohibited means and methods of warfare") and paragraph "l" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code ("Murder motivated by political, ideological, racial, national or religious hatred or enmity, or motivated by hatred or enmity against of any social group").

On December 18, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) sentenced British mercenary William Davis to 13 years in prison in a criminal case. He was found guilty under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict").
