The Interior Ministry warned about fraud with a "side job" on the sale of gift certificates

The scammers began to actively use the deception scheme under the guise of remote part-time work related to the sale of gift certificates. This was reported on December 22 in the Telegram channel of the Department for the Organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

"Scammers place ads for simple remote work in groups and messenger channels. After the response, the person is transferred to a separate correspondence or conversation and offered to earn money by selling gift certificates through online platforms," the message says.

According to the agency, the contractor is assigned the role of an intermediary: he accepts payment from the buyer, keeps a small percentage for himself, and transfers the rest of the amount to third parties.

In this case, an invalid or non-working certificate is sent to the buyer. After the claims appear, the organizers of the scheme promise to settle the situation and compensate for the damage, but then they stop communicating. As a result, all responsibility falls on the contractor, who either returns the money at his own expense, or risks being implicated as an accomplice in illegal actions.

The Interior Ministry noted that after completing the transaction, fraudsters delete correspondence, change the names and design of channels, leaving a person with financial losses and possible conflicts with customers.

The department urged caution towards remote work offers without official registration, and also recommended purchasing gift certificates only at official retail outlets.
