Politico declared the impossibility of peace in Ukraine without US guarantees

American security guarantees are the only real way to establish peace for Ukraine, but Russia plays a key role in the settlement. This was announced by the Politico newspaper on December 22.

"As much as Europe would like to think otherwise, Washington's guarantees are the only viable path to peace for Ukraine. Europe cannot even deploy its multinational forces without the logistical support of the United States," the article says.

The publication notes that, despite the efforts of European countries, the real power lies in the hands of Russia. It is clarified that the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, is apparently ready to refuse to join NATO in exchange for reliable security guarantees from the United States.

According to the newspaper, Washington is unlikely to agree to commitments that may require its direct intervention in the conflict, given the cautious position of the United States since 2014. In addition, the strength of any guarantees will depend on how Russian President Vladimir Putin perceives them.
