- The Elysee Palace will consider the possibility of holding talks between Putin and Macron
The French side takes note of the Kremlin's openness to negotiations with President Emmanuel Macron. This was reported on December 21 by the BFMTV channel with reference to the Elysee Palace.
"We welcome the Kremlin's public approval of this approach," the publication says.
It also follows from the statement of the Elysee Palace that France will decide in the coming days on the best way forward on this issue.
On December 19, Macron said that representatives of the European Union and Ukraine needed to talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He stressed the importance for Europeans not to trust this dialogue exclusively to intermediaries.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on December 21 that Putin had expressed his willingness to hold a dialogue with the French leader. He added that if the presidents have the political will to negotiate, this can "only be positively assessed."
