The decision of the European Council to continue allocating money to the regime of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky confirmed that European Russophobes are not interested in ending the current conflict. This was stated on December 19 in a statement by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"The EU member states have decided to continue financing the Zelensky regime and, accordingly, further prolong the Ukrainian conflict. This is another confirmation that Russophobes in the European Union do not need peace in Ukraine," the agency's website says.

The diplomat also stated that any illegal actions with Russian assets will not go unpunished, despite any "clever" schemes in Europe.

"No matter what clever pseudo—legal schemes the European Union tries to invent, there are no legal grounds for blocking, confiscating or using the assets of the Bank of Russia," Zakharova recalled.

The head of the European Council, Antonio Costa, announced on the same day that the participants of the EU summit had decided to finance Ukraine for €90 billion in 2026-2027. According to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the loan is provided at zero percent. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban noted that an interest-free loan of €90 billion for Ukraine is wasted money.
