Lavrov thanked Egypt for its objective position on Ukraine

Russia is grateful to Egypt for its objective and balanced position on Ukraine. This was stated on December 19 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a joint press conference following talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelati.

"We are grateful to our Egyptian colleagues for their objective, balanced position on the situation in and around Ukraine," the TASS news agency quoted Lavrov as saying.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister, in turn, noted that Egypt is ready to contribute to any international efforts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.

In addition, Badr Abdelati noted that Cairo highly appreciates Moscow's position on the Palestinian issue.

In November, during a telephone conversation with Abdelati, Lavrov discussed the situation around the Iranian nuclear program, noting the need to avoid a new escalation. The ministers also discussed Russian-Egyptian cooperation, particularly in the energy sector.
