French director Christian de Chalonge has died at the age of 88.
French director Christian de Chalonge has died at the age of 89. This was reported on December 18 by the French newspaper Le Monde with reference to his wife Dominique Garnier.
"Christian Rene Marcel Gillet de Chalonge, who was born in 1937 in Douai (Nord), died on December 6 in Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis), the newspaper reported... his wife Dominique Garnier, who co—wrote several screenplays with him, including "Dr. Petiot" (1990) and "The Beautiful Summer of 1914" (1996)," the publication says.
Christian de Chalonge was a graduate of the University of Paris-Sorbonne and the Institute of Advanced Cinematographic Studies (IDHEC). At the beginning of his career, he worked as an assistant to directors Rene Claire, Georges Frangue and Henri Verneuil. His first feature film, About the Flip (1967), was shot with the support of British director Tony Richardson.
During his career, Christian de Chalonge received the Louis-Delluc Award and two Cesar Awards for the film "Other People's Money" (1978) — for best film and best director. His famous works include the Jean Vigo Award-winning feature film Alliance (1971) and the post-apocalyptic film Maleville (1981).
