- The Ministry of Health called the risks of ARVI transmission "on the feet" for the patient and others
People who get sick with influenza and acute respiratory viral infections sometimes decide to carry the disease "on their feet", which creates risks for both the patients themselves and those around them. Vladimir Chulanov, chief freelance specialist for infectious diseases at the Russian Ministry of Health, told reporters on December 19.
"Currently, there is an increase in the incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections in the Russian Federation, which is typical for this time of year. Often, people with SARS symptoms carry the disease "on their feet," which creates risks for both the patient and others," he said.
Chulanov explained that because of this decision, a person who does not know that a weakened body needs strength to recover and even mild physical and mental stress is contraindicated automatically prolongs his illness for a period of two to five days.
He added that when a patient makes a choice in favor of maintaining his usual lifestyle, rather than staying at rest in a well-ventilated room with an air humidity of 40 to 60%, he forces the heart and other organs to work hard. In addition, the condition in this case may worsen from the stress sometimes experienced at work. In addition, as the specialist emphasized, those who refuse to tolerate a cold properly increase the likelihood of exacerbation of existing chronic diseases.
"If proper treatment and bed rest are neglected, the disease can lead to dangerous consequences, including pneumonia, myocarditis, and meningitis," Chulanov listed.
He drew attention to the fact that SARS is transmitted by airborne droplets quite easily - one patient can infect up to 22 people. Therefore, as the specialist advises, if a person with symptoms of the disease is found at work or at school, it is important to minimize contact with him, regularly ventilate the premises, disinfect the surfaces of objects (door handles, handrails and railings, switch buttons), and wash hands regularly. At the same time, the sickest person should wear a mask or respirator.
On December 11, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, said that in 17 regions of Russia, an excess of epidemic indicators for influenza was recorded. According to her, the most common type of this disease is variant A (H3N2). The woman clarified that the largest number of cases occurs among school students.
