Modern implants take root in the vast majority of patients, but there are groups of people who should pay more attention to the recommendations of doctors. Kirill Polyakov, Candidate of Medical Sciences, maxillofacial surgeon, dental surgeon at Naudent Dentistry, told about this on Wednesday, December 17.

"There are three groups of people where everything is not going so smoothly. And the reason is rarely in the implants themselves, more often it is in the characteristics of the body or the behavior of the patient," he said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The dentist included people with severe osteoporosis in the first group.

"The bone is the "foundation" of the implant. If it is loose and weakly holds the load, even the best quality implant will not be able to fix itself stably. Doctors are able to circumvent this problem with the help of bone grafting and special surgical techniques, but the risk is still higher than in other patients," the doctor shared.

According to the specialist, the second group includes those who are "treated in their own way.": They smoke after surgery, skip medications, and forget about hygiene.

"It is the postoperative period that decides half of the success. If the recommendations are ignored, the inflammation develops rapidly, and even a perfect implantation will not save the situation," the dentist warned.

The doctor assigned patients with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus to the third group.

"With high glucose levels, the blood supply to tissues and the ability to heal deteriorate. The implant takes root more slowly, and the risks of inflammation are much higher," the dentist noted, adding that when the patient keeps glucose levels under control, the implantation is successful.

In addition, Polyakov dispelled the myth that implants do not take root well in old age. He stressed that competent preparation and attentive attitude to recommendations turn the operation from an adventure into a predictable, calm process.

"Today, implantation is successfully performed even at the age of 75-80, because everything is decided by the state of health, not the number in the passport," he added.

On December 13, Polyakov said that some common recommendations from the Internet cause dentists to worry about possible damage to teeth, sometimes unnoticeable, but expensive to treat. He noted that the videos claim that soda is a simple and "natural" remedy for yellowness. But for enamel, baking soda is like a rough skin, the doctor explained: it peels off the upper protective layer, making teeth loose and sensitive.

In turn, dentist Sevak Barseghyan warned that attempts to whiten teeth using folk methods can provoke the development of caries, as well as make teeth darker, according to the website. kp.ru .

Earlier, on December 15, Anastasia Chernoshei, a dentist at SM-Dentistry, urged not to use an old toothbrush after recovering from a cold. 360.ru .
