Germany lost more than 70% of supplies to the Russian market after the imposition of sanctions against Russia. This was reported on December 17 by the RIA Novosti news agency, referring to the open data from Eurostat.

It is noted that the amount of exports from Germany to Russia from January to September 2021 amounted to €19.6 billion. While for the same period of the current year, the figure was €5.2 billion. As a result, Germany lost 73.5% of its exports.

At the same time, the monthly profit of German companies from exports in 2021 amounted to €2.3 billion and in 2025 — €584 million.

Ambassador to Berlin Sergey Nechaev said on December 13 that Germany was developing plans to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia and was getting rid of various formats of bilateral cooperation with the Russian Federation. He called the intentions of European politicians to use Russia's frozen assets extremely dangerous and unprecedented.

The Euractiv portal reported on December 15 that seven EU states do not support the idea of confiscating Russian assets under sanctions. Russian President Vladimir Putin said on November 27 that the confiscation of Russian assets located in the European Union would have negative consequences. He instructed the Russian government to develop a package of retaliatory measures.
