Igor Aznauryan, a pediatric ophthalmologist, MD, professor, founder and head of the Association of Children's Eye Clinics "Clear Eye", named on Tuesday, December 16, ways to preserve eyesight while constantly working at a computer.

"Dryness, redness and blurred vision at the end of the day are familiar to many, but these symptoms are not a verdict, but a signal that calls for thinking about eye health," the expert said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

According to the doctor, one of the key recommendations for maintaining vision is the "20-20-20" rule, according to which you should pause every 20 minutes and look at an object about 20 paces away for 20 seconds. This helps to relax the ciliary muscle, which is constantly tense when focusing on the screen for a long time, which leads to fatigue and spasm of accommodation.

He also called for the proper organization of the workspace — the distance to the monitor should be at least 50-70 cm, while it is recommended to place the center of the screen 15-20 degrees below eye level. The ophthalmologist emphasized that it is especially important to follow these recommendations for children whose visual system is just being formed.

"Studies show that using smartphones with a screen diagonal of less than 7 inches increases the risk of developing myopia by one and a half times compared to working at a desktop computer," Aznauryan warned.

The doctor added that vision care also includes maintaining the overall health of the body: adequate sleep, balanced nutrition, and regular exercise. In addition, long walks in the fresh air are useful. At the same time, the doctor noted that prolonged exposure to dry air should be avoided and, if necessary, humidifiers should be used to reduce the risk of dryness and eye irritation.

On the same day, Tatyana Pavlova, associate professor of the Department of Ophthalmology at Pirogov University, pointed out the danger of constantly finding toys suspended near the baby's bed directly in front of the baby's face, according to the website. kp.ru .

According to the expert, they can provoke the development of convergent strabismus and malfunction of the eye muscles. 360.ru .

On August 10, Anton Kazantsev, ophthalmologist and CEO of VISTA Ophthalmological Center, shared habits that can preserve eyesight. He called the "20-20-20 rule" the most underestimated, the essence of which is the need to look up from the screen every 20 minutes and look at an object at a distance of 20 m for 20 seconds. According to the expert, this practice reduces the risk of myopia progression.
