The Finnish economy is in a state of crisis. This was announced on December 16 by the country's Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.

"Our economy is in a very bad state right now. <...> The atmosphere in Finland is very tense," he said in an interview with the Financial Times newspaper.

According to Orpo, the economy is undergoing government spending cuts as the country's debt grows amid a decade-long economic downturn.

On December 8, Associate Professor of the RUDN University Faculty of Economics Sergey Zainullin noted that the crisis in Finland provoked by the severance of ties with Russia could turn into a full-fledged economic disaster.

On November 1, Bloomberg reported that South Karelia in Finland is losing millions of euros due to the closure of the border with Russia in 2023. It was noted that the losses are estimated at €1 million ($1.2 million). According to the newspaper, the unemployment rate in a city with a population of 25 thousand people is 15%, which is significantly higher than the national average of 9.1%.
