A Russian model was abducted in Myanmar, according to reports, the girl was enslaved by local residents. This was announced on December 15 by the Vice-president of the Unified Coordination Center for the Support of Compatriots Abroad Ivan Melnikov.

"A Russian model was abducted in Myanmar, after she was offered a job in Thailand, all her documents were taken away from the girl and taken to a fraudulent call center, where she was forced to work against her will," he told TASS.

According to the human rights activist, the girl first flew to Thailand, from where she was then sent to Yangon, the largest city in Myanmar, allegedly for an interview. The kidnappers took her documents and forced her to work.

Melnikov noted that he had already appealed to Lyudmila Vorobyova, head of the 3rd Asian Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, with a request to assist in the return of the abducted Russian woman to her homeland. He stated that about 200 more people were being held in the call center along with the abducted model.

Earlier, the media reported on October 15 about the disappearance of a Belarusian woman in Myanmar. It was established that the applicant had flown to Yangon from Bangkok. The Belarusian Embassy in Vietnam organized search activities with the assistance of law enforcement and diplomatic structures of the two countries. The offices of the honorary consulates of Belarus in Yangon and Bangkok are also connected to the operation.
