Venezuela condemns the decision of the European Union (EU) to indefinitely block Russian assets. This was announced on December 13 by Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Delcy Rodriguez in the Telegram channel.

"The Government of the Bolivarian Republic rejects the freezing of assets of the Russian Federation in Europe approved by the European Union. This clearly violates international law, undermines the legal security of investments and jeopardizes peace initiatives in the region," she said.

Rodriguez noted that the EU's actions are illegal and represent an attempt by the countries of the Global North to attack "those of us who advocate a new world of legality, free from theft, piracy, robbery and looting."

Earlier in the day, Business Insider Polska reported that Russia is ready to respond to the EU's measures for the indefinite freezing and potential confiscation of Russian assets. Moscow's possible response may be more thoughtful and relate to "C" type accounts.

On December 12, the EU decided to freeze Russian assets located in Europe indefinitely. We are talking about funds worth about €210 billion. The head of the European Council, Antonio Costa, noted that Russian assets will remain blocked until the end of the Ukrainian conflict and the payment of "compensation" to Ukraine.

The website of the European Council stated that the relevant measures were temporary. It is noted that the return of Russia's sovereign assets could cause "serious economic difficulties" in the EU.

On November 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the confiscation of Russian assets located in the European Union would have negative consequences. In particular, the Russian government, on behalf of the head of state, is developing a package of retaliatory measures.
